Permanent Hats become a permanent part of the marble product, providing a finished underside which requires very little, if any, additional finishing. The hat is set in place on the un-gelled first cast immediately following vibration. Gently depress the step-down part of the flange into the matrix just enough too barely cover it. Because they conceal the underside of the bowl, any color of matrix can be used for the backpour. When the first cast of matrix has gelled and cooled, the second cast (backpour) can be made. The permanent hats are available in a white or clear plastic, and with a choice of including an overflow, or no overflow. Part numbers beginning with PH are permanent hats.

 

Hats are a time, saving, but also cost-effective alternative to a more expensive, labor-intensive female mold. A number of hat types are available: one-time use (permanent hats), and hats that can be used for a limited number of casting cycles (reusable hats). These new hats are more uniform material thickness – and although they use slightly thinner material than the old original hats, they are more uniform thickness overall, with less distortion and thin wall regions found in the original hats. We have invested in a new, more efficient manufacturing process with higher throughput to help reduce costs, and allow us to offer these hats at a lower price than the old original hats. You benefit by receiving better quality hats, with improved edge treatments, more uniform dimensional accuracy, and less distortion – at a lower price than traditional hats.
